Policy 201 ~ Early Entrance to Kindergarten
As of August 20, 2009, the Policy regarding Admission of Students (No.201) was revised. This revision addresses early entrance to Kindergarten. Please note the following: • A child is eligible for admission to Kindergarten if he/she has attained the age of five on or before September 1st of that school year. • The Superintendent or designee is authorized to establish, implement, and revise from time to time, an early admissions procedure for admission to Kindergarten for those children reaching the age of five on or before September 15th of that school year. • The Superintendent or designee shall require…. that the parent/guardian of each student requesting early admission shall comply with the requirements of any applicable early admissions procedures so established by administration.

The following Procedure will be implemented to address any requests for early entrance to Kindergarten. If a child reaches the age of five on or before September 15th of the school year, the following criteria must be met:

• Parent(s) will submit a written request to be considered for Early Admission to include reasons why they believe the child should be admitted. • An Independent Evaluation at the parents’ expense must be submitted to the Crestwood School District School Psychologist. • The Independent Evaluation illustrates an Intelligence Quotient (or similar terminology) of 135 . • The Independent Evaluation addresses social and emotional development. • Child must demonstrate knowledge of academic curriculum via achievement testing (cut off scores/subtest scores in the superior range i.e. 130) , teacher input, independent evaluator observations

Once the written request and independent evaluation is received by Crestwood School District’s School Psychologist, the School Psychologist will review and if necessary meet with student, parents and complete further assessment. The School Psychologist will consult with Elementary Principals, Assistant to the Superintendent, and Superintendent if necessary and a recommendation will be made. The parents will be notified via writing of the team’s decision.
